if you can do without MDLP then the aiwas, especially the AM-F80, are the
best machines for live recording. not sure about how loud the F80 goes cos i
never play it very high - the r90 was always loud enough for me...

the main advantage the aiwa portable recorders(except the new f90...?) have
is backlit display on *both* the unit and remote, as well as saving all the
recording settings(manual v auto, rec levels) after stopping recording which
the r90 doesnt do. the backlight on the unit makes adjusting levels easy!

when i used to record live with the r90 i used the light from the remote to
adjust the levels(yeah it was a bit difficult).

Subject: MD: Sony R900 vs. R90

I want to get rid of my R90 because of two reasons:

1) no good for live recording (very hard to adjust levels in the dark)
2) Doesn't go even close to loud enough. I set the rec levels as high as
they will go, and its still too quiet. I use sony 888 earbuds.

Anyone have any recommends? Thanks,
