It CAN be done, I do it usually without any problem.

The "secret" is to access your DVD setup menu, and send ALL signals (Dolby
Digital, DTS and MPEG) as a PCM signal.

The output will be at 48 KHz, and virtually any MD recorder will be able to
resample it.
