Hi. I realize that this is not MD related, but as one of the grand daddies of
MD lovers on this site, age before beauty :). I'm posting here because this
site has, in my humble opinion, the most hi tech knowledgeable group of
individuals I know of in the internet. You knowledge extending to most phases
of consumer electronics and computers. Not just MD.

I was wondering if anyone has ever personally tried the Sony PLMA35 Glasstron
eyeglass TV? They used to sell for close to a grand (USD) imported from Japan
(of course that price may have included the portable battery pack and I don't
think that the US version does).

If any one has seen an actual video source on these and has an opinion about
them, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Unless other members of the
list are interested, you can e mail me personally to avoid further Non MD
related posts here.

I'm also interest in the new lpmd portable recorders. But since I have 2
standard MD portables and a mini unit which has direct CD to MD transfer of 3
CDs to 3 MDs (Sharp's MD-CD2), I really don't know if an incompatible format
would be of value to me.

As far as I can tell from what I have read here the only advantage to long
playing MDs is that you can store more songs on one MD. But this seems to have
opened a debate as to whether the long play (LP2) MDs have as good a sound
quality as standard MDs which use a much higher bit rate.

Also, I still fail to see how MP3 which seem to use 128 bits as the "standard"
(although I realize that you can record at higher bit rates at the expense of
disc space) can offer sound quality as good or better than MD?

If the number of songs on a single disc (so you don't have to switch discs as
often) was important to me, I think I'd sacrifice the convince and durability
of MDs and burn all of my CD on to CD after converting the CDs songs to MP3.

But for me, the convince and durability of MD far out weighs the ability to get
more songs on a disc. Plus, I still believe that any recorder with ATRAC
Version 4 (in both Sharp or Sony, although I realize that there is no direct
comparison to version numbers) or higher will produce superior results to the
current MP3 standard.

Both Sharp and Sony's version 4 ATRAC is much newer than MP3. So while Sharp
and Sony have been constantly striving to improve the sound quality of MDs (and
are fully backwards compatible) MP3 is the same as it has been for a very long
time).
