The Ratman is right. BUT doing things like that is what GEEKS like us do!!!
I'll bet almost everyone on the list has messed up their computer fooling around
with some freeware/shareware program or "upgrade" to "correct" a driver problem
that you don't even have.
Then to make matters worse, you either didn't have a recent backup or you are so
used to backing up that instead of using your backup, you over write them by
backing up the defective setup <G>.
We are always trying to test our computers to see if we can improve the
Benchmarks. We add memory when we already have enough memory in our computer
(even though the law of diminishing returns applies so that you get to the point
where any increase in performance is undetectable).
We over clock our computers to add 50 HZ when we already have gigahertz
computers. So the difference between 1KHz and 50 is a big deal. But one Gig and
a Gig fifty (I'm saying 1050 HZ NOT 1.5 will make no noticeable (human)
difference.
That's what this list is all about. This isn't the "Music on MD" list. It's the
Community [geek/tweek] MD list. How many of you have put your player into the
test mode only to end up not being able to get the unit to work properly again.
What did you hope to gain by playing around with it? Defeat copy protection??
Check the error rates? If the damn thing sounds OK, why are you concerned about
the error rates? Either you have a defective disc or unit and it will not work
or it works, period.
That's what we do. Anyone can listen to music. With a little bit of
intelligence anyone can copy a CD to an MD. They may even delve into making
compilations and titling. But the people on this list are not satisfied doing
that.
"Plain" {I was going to say normal, but who's to say what's normal. But like
Stuart Howlette said so well, "There are many questions in life, but is the right
answer only correct
because the majority believe in it?". The same applies to normal} people were
and would still be perfectly happy with the MD copies made for the original Sony
MZ-1.
But this list is, for the most part, not "plain" people. We aregeeker-tweakers.
Have fun. Larry
