I notice this on all my portables, too (Sharp 702, Aiwa F70). For me, I
hear white noise whenever the backlight on the display turns on. It goes
away after a few seconds (when the backlight turns off) or if I use my
portable without the remote. Since it happens on both my portables and all
the portables I've ever used, I think it's normal. You should try using
your R700 without the remote. If you still hear a lot of white noise, the
problem might be somewhere else. Hope that helps.
