I wonder if it is machine specific? But it seems to me that as long as your are
not recording you should not have a problem.
It seems that a lot of people have this misconception. But it is incorrect. I
used this setup myself until a few weeks ago when I bought a new TV for my
bedroom with A/V inputs.
Think about what you are saying, if Macrovision caused that problem, you would
not be able to watch any DVDs. All that you are doing is taking the A/V output
and using the VCR A/V to RF signal converter to do just that.
If you check out the Macrovision site, you will see that Macrovision prevents
copying. The interaction occurs when you try to put the signal on tape. If you
are just using it as a "pass through" it shouldn't affect it.
Not only that, but if you have a TV/VCR Combo and play your DVD though one of
the units line ins, it works fine as you would expect. However if you put a
tape in and try to record it, the picture will be distorted even though you are
not actually watching the tape.
In order for Macrovision to do it's damage, there has to be a recording phase
involved.
I can't tell you why yours did not work on the one VCR, unless you actually
tried to record at the same time. I used a new, but really cheap HiFi VCR and a
19" TV that I bought in 1989. I only plugged the Video into the VCR (the audio
went to a mini Hi Fi system). But that should not have made a difference.
