Hi all.

Sony seems to feel secure that even without a strong foot hold in the US, the MD
format is very
much alive and thriving world wide. This may be one of the first consumer products
marketed for
world wide distribution (for example, they make electric tea pots for Canada, but GE
has never
marketed this product for the US-to the best of my knowledge) that has gained
considerable
worldwide success without the support of the United States.

[This may show the lessening of US importance as an importer. But that's a political
issue and not
the point of my e mail.]

Of course, if Sony does not drag it's heals, Net MD may make MD a house hold word in
the US too.
Without getting my hopes up, this could be the "Diamond Rio buster"

I have a feeling that Sony plans to market it's vast library of music (as I'm sure
most of you
know, Sony purchased, Columbia, CBS and all of it's division record companies several
years ago)
through Net MD.

Unfortunately, at this time, Sony's "Net MD" endorsing companies do not include other
record
companies. But this could just be my misinterpretation of what they mean by endorsing
companies.

This is very exciting!!! If you want MDLP right now, this should not deter you from
buying a
recorder, as long as you understand that if you want to take advantage of Net MD, it
seems clear
from their announcement that it is going to require a special unit. But anything you
record using
Net MD will play on your R900, R700 etc.

Larry
