Me too. Radio Shack's are not that cheap. I've seen them in Wal-Mart with a
dozen plugs for about $10.00.
Now at one time when AT&T owned the phone companies in the US and you had to buy
your phones from them (actually I think for a long time you could only rent
them), their "Princess" phone came with a transformer (they were not as commonly
used as they are today), that looked like the case was solid epoxy.
There are advantages and disadvantages to those crappy wall warts. The
advantage is that if the power supply goes bad (but hopefully does not destroy
the unit) all you need is to replace it.
The disadvantages are obvious. I had a Toshiba notebook computer that used an
internal power supply. It never went bad (the screen died, but the notebook
still works with an external monitor).
