Sony really burns my ass anyway!!! They are constantly coming out with products that
they already have replacements for, but wait to release. When they came out with
their first Beta Cam it did not have auto focus, even though most of the VHS Cameras
did. I knew that the following season they would come out with the "new Beta Cam"
which had auto focus but sold for the same price as the original. Sure enough that's
just what happened.
They could have and should have come out with DSP Type R when they released the R900!
This "planned obsolesce" is common in most industries. The drug industry does things
like holding back a new drug which has potentially less side effects, or is more
effective (even though it has been for sale in Europe for several years and will have
no trouble getting a fast FDA approval-they don't have to worry about starting
clinical trials, they have actual on the market data which is even better) because
they just released a similar drug and don't want to compete against themselves.
Why release the 909 when they can first release the 900 and make a big deal about
having the first MDLP portable. Then a year later add DSP Type R.
There is a maximum amount that most people are willing to pay for a portable Md
recorder. So if they release the 909 in sufficient quantity, it will hopefully bring
about a reduction in the price of the R900, 700 and 500.
