In the long run, it's function over style, and the MZ-r909 doesn't give any real new
benifits.
Sony is just milking the cow on this one (we all they do it). I've had the MZ-r55 for
three
years now, and it still works great. I don't pay much battery costs using the
rechargeable
gumsticks, although it would be nice for a little more juice. I get about 4 hours use,
but
with an extra gumstick, it gets me through until I can charge it again.

I would like to hear more about the CD titling compatibility between sony discmans and
MD units, about how usefull it is. The titlng option is, afterall, one of the cooler
functions
of MD. Any feedback on this would be appreciated. I am curious to know how many CDs
these days take advantage of imbedded titling. With all the numerous publishers out
there, its hard to imagine a substantial amount include titling with their CDs. But
then
again, I don't squat about the CD industry's trends or manufacturing processes.

When I started out I wanted to flaunt the MZ-B50 (sports an included mic), and get it
to
record radio (it sucks this isn't easier on MDs), but after I dicovered a flaw in my
logic,
I've decided to discuss the dream unit, plus some side stuff I find interesting.

So here it is: An MDLP unit with a mini mic, using wireless headphones (either the
ones
that are used in the WE01 walkman, or these at 2ners.com) and then a wireless watch
remote like the one on the Sony E7W MD player. The idea here is long recording time,
convient remote operation, and radio transmission AND recording. I'd like to be able
to
share my music with other radios and record newscasts and unique college music
broadcasts.

Ofcourse, its just wetware unless we do something about it. I suppose I could attach a
portable radio to the 2ner tranmitter, and inject that into the MD unit from there.
For a
watch remote, maybe I could order the watch and reciever for their E7W from the Sony
parts warehouse and hotwire it onto the player. Don't know how I'd power it though...

Things would really start to be cool! I'd be like a mobile DJ or something.

Rant continues....totally off subject AND forum...

There are so many things to explore its over whelming sometimes. What I want
Panasonic to do is release a portable gamecube similar to their DVDPV55, but add
cordless controller with a highresolution monitor. It should also have an SD disk for
whatever.
Or mayber put the monitor on the player, but whatever it is, the controller will be
GBA
compatible. So maybe both - a screen on the controller and a the player.

Still with me? Wow. I'm surprised.

Continuing... It should be mp3/ogg compatible, and include compatibility with TDKs
"multi
level cd-r" technology ( right here:
http://www.nikkeibp.asiabiztech.com/wcs/leaf?CID=onair/asabt/moren/136765). Can
you see where I'm going yet? Me neither.

I'm thinking high capacity portable micro player and burner. With a touch of gaming on
the side. Late 2002 we can expect to see micro multilayer mp3 players (the corps will
never support ogg), if not sooner. My question for you is do you think mini-cd/dvd
will kill
md? We are, afterall, talking 2 gigs of storage on a cd sized disc, which means a 650
mb
on a disc 1/3 the size of a regular CD.

Ugh. I'm gonna go to sleep now. Sorry about the aimless rant :)
