The 888LP and 888SP are exactly the same except that the SP has a shorter
cord. They are "earbuds" that sit in the outer ear.
The EX70SL are the "short cord" version of the EX70. They are canal-phones,
meaning they actually sit down in (and block) your ear canal.
The general consensus in the headphone enthusiast community is that the 888s
have a better overall sound than the EX70s, but the EX70s are better in
noisy environments because they block out much more ambient noise.
Another thing to consider about the EX70s is that they are quite microphonic
(a drawback of all canal-phones) -- since they couple to the sides of your
ear canals, any scraping or rubbing of the cables will be transferred
directly to your ears. In addition, you'll find that your footsteps are
often amplified as well. For this reason canal-phones are generally a bad
idea for exercise, especially exercise like running.
If you like your SportaPros, I would *enthusiastically* recommend you try
out the Koss KSC-35s. They are cheaper than both the EX70s and the 888s, and
sound significantly better than both, but are lightweight and very
comfortable. They are really the ultimate exercise headphone. If you want a
pair, you should get them quickly since Koss has replaced them with the
KSC-50, which are heavier, bigger, fall off easily, and don't sound quite as
good.
