You can get an adapter the will let you connect standard phones to the
micro jack. It used to cost about $15 or so.
On the buttons not working, you might be able to open it up and clean
the contacts and the base of the buttons with alchohol. I don't know
if it will help any or if you will have parts flying across the room
and you have a pile on nuts and bolts when you are finished.
