About 15 years ago Studio standard used to be 2 inches, then with some
improvements, it went to one inch. 3/4" was the standard for industrial
films, with huge honking machines. VHS and Beta are both 1/2". The
Betacams used for field work until recently were 1/2" but got the one inch
quality. I used to be in the field, but it's passed me by now.
