It's a shame the JVC combination mechanism used in their KD-MX3000,
MX2900, etc. car stereos didn't take off. I'm surprised Sony didn't try
something similar. What better way to get people hooked to MD than by
offering MD equipment that can also play their CDs? This probably
wouldn't work for a portable, but in a car where both CD and MD can fit
into a single DIN (and use a single mechanism), I can certainly see this
as a huge benefit. Many people might be indecisive about buying an MD
car stereo as it would mean they can't play CD's in the car anymore, but
a combination mechanism would take care of that indecision. Especially
if a combo player only cost a little bit more than a standard CD
player. I have a KD-MX3000, and I think it's great! It would be nice
if the combo mechanism sold in enough numbers to drop its price to where
it could be offered in everything. To where every CD or DVD player sold
could also play and record to MD (or at least play them).
