release note :

-----------------------------

MDaemon 6.04 - August 1, 2002

-----------------------------

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

----------------------

o Previous releases automatically bound outbound sockets to the IP of the
active domain name when that domain was setup to bind its listening
sockets. This presents a problem for a few sites. Therefore this
functionality has been made switchable but the default is to disable
this feature. If you would like to have all outgoing sockets bound to
their respective IP addresses you can re-enable this feature by editing
the following switch setting in the MDaemon.ini file:

    [Domain]

    BindToBoundDomains=Yes (default No)

o Very large numbers of IP screen entries cause MDaemon performance to
degrade. The number of IP screen entries can quickly grow beyond a
managable limit when the Spam Blocker's 'Add blacklisted sites to IP
Screen' option is enabled. This can occur quickly and without the
administrators knowledge. Therefore a limit has been placed on this
feature until a future version can better index very large lists. The
Spam Blocker will only add IPs to the file automatically if the file is
less than 20,000 bytes in size (approx 500 entries). Of course, you
can add any number of entries to the file manually or by using the IP
    Screen GUI.

MAJOR NEW FEATURES

------------------

  o None

CHANGES AND ADDITIONAL NEW FEATURES

-----------------------------------

o In the past messages from the Postmaster alias could be configured to
require an authenticated mail session. This requirement is still
possible however trusted IP's will be exempt from it.

o Normally aliases are not honored by the IP Shielding process. If you
would like the IP Shield to honor aliases you can enable a new switch on
the Aliases GUI called 'IP Shield honors aliases'. With this switch set
aliases will be taken into consideration when the IP Shield attempts to
match the domain of the sender to the IP addresses allowed for that
domain. Also, if the 'Messages to valid local users are exempt from
domain/IP matching' option is set, this switch will allow messages sent
to valid aliases to bypass the IP Shield. Previously, aliases were not
honored by the IP Shield in this way.

o Normally when accounts are over their disk quota they are able to send
messages but are unable to receive messages. A new switch has been
added to the Misc. Options dialog which reverses this so that over quota
accounts are able to receive messages but not send messages.

o Normally when scheduling a meeting the meeting can be scheduled even
if the scheduler does not have write permission to the calendars of
the attendees. This behavior can now be controlled via a new switch
setting on the Calendar & Scheduling tab within the WorldClient/RelayFax
dialog called 'Allow meetings to bypass calendar access permissions'.
This switch is enabled by default allowing meetings to be scheduled even
when the creator of the meeting does not have write permission to the
calendars of the attendees. With this switch disabled meetings will
be scheduled only for those attendees who have granted calendar write
    permission to the meeting creator.

o MDaemon can create and maintain a '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
mailing list which includes all non-hidden accounts across all domains.
If you would like to disable this feature edit the following setting in
    the MDaemon.ini file:

    [Special]
    CreateMasterEveryoneList=No (Default Yes)

By default, every member automatically added to this list is added in
'read only' mode. You can have members added in 'normal' mode by
changing the following setting inthe MDaemon.ini file:

    MasterEveryoneListReadOnly=No (Default Yes)

o 'Everyone' mailing lists no longer contain detailed listings of each
list member. This was too costly in performance. So, now, the lists
contain one or more 'ALL USER:<domain>' macros which expand to the full
domain membership dynamically when messages are sent to the list.

o Global Administrator level users can send to any mailing list even if
they are not part of the list membership and even if they are flagged
    as 'Read Only'.

o Added a new switch to the Authentication dialog. It requires users who
authenticate during SMTP delivery to use only their own authentication
credentials. When this switch is set the logon/password used must be
those of the sender given in the SMTP MAIL command.

o The switch which enabled administrator level access for an account was
moved from the Web tab to a new Admin tab within the Account Editor.

o A new switch was added to the Admin tab in the Account Editor. It sets
up an account to have domain administrator WebAdmin access.

o Some slight verbiage changes were made to the Reverse Lookups dialog.

o The 'MAIL FROM Postmaster requires authentication' switch settings found
in the Aliases GUI was replicated to the AUTH GUI as well.

o Added a two second delay in the startup procedure to give LDaemon more
    time to completely initialize.

o WorldClient now puts []'s around the IP when it generates a Received
    header.

o WorldClient will only use the WorldClient.ini found in the following
    location: \MDaemon\WorldClient.

o Midnight cleanup process will purge old entries from the RECENT.DAT file.

o An optimization was made to the IMAP APPEND processing which should
minimize the occurance of "Could not lock and/or open mailbox" errors.

o The MDaemon splash graphic was reduced to 8-bit color depth.

o The WorldClient login page now asks for the users email address instead
    of the username.
