Hi everyone,

I've found an article which explain how to find the AppId and how to use the
goup policy mentioned by Michael.

Here is the link
http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/sanderberkouwer/archive/2013/09/17/is-your-organization-ready-for-windows-8-1-part-8-start-screen-app-pinning.aspx
 for who needs it.

I already tried this solution and it works fine, but as far as I tested this
only is applied to the new accounts and only once. So you won't be able to add
additional items for the old user accounts.

Thank you,

Best Regards,

Subject: RE: [MDT-OSD] Script to Pin icons on Windows 8.1 start menu

Hi Michael,

I already had a look on that settings but I'm not able to test it since I can't
get the appid to pin the application that I want.

Which is the best method to get the appid? I tried through the registry but I
can't get it.

Another question is regarding the shortcuts that I want to pin on the start
menu. I have some shortcuts delivered by group policy that I want to add on the
start menu, but in this case without AppID that won't be possible using this
group policy, right?

Thank you,

There is a group policy where you can list the app IDs of specific apps that
you want to automatically pin at installation time.

Thanks,
-Michael

Well I'm trying to get a way to pin some shortcuts when we're installing some
additional software on a TS which deploy the golden image, since Windows 8.1
doesn't add the new shortcuts directly on the start screen menu, as windows 8.

So I already have the start screen layout designed and being applied through
the default profile, nevertheless I have some kind of application being
installed by department and I want to put that icons after the installation
process.

Thank you,

Are you thinking a "current user" type of situation? The only thing I've found
so far are the PowerShell commands to import and export the layout:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn283403.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn283401.aspx

Those operate on the default user profile, though... so I think they only work
during deployment or for any new users that log on after the import command is
issued.

Subject: [MDT-OSD] Script to Pin icons on Windows 8.1 start menu

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to know if there is already any script available to pin items on
Windows 8.1 start menu.

I already tried to use the objFolderItem.Verbs like on Windows 8 but this
solution seems not working anymore. When I try to check the verbs items
available through the objFolderItem.Verbs the Pin to Start option isn't there.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,
