That's what I'd like to know.

Our SCCM planners are set to go with R2, but if my OSD work is going to take 
the kind of hit that Johan is talking about then I have to fight that and 
really push for going with SP1.  Then I have to put a halt to our upgrade to 
MDT 2013 and switch to MDT 2012 instead.

Unfortunately, (no offense intended here but) "Johan said..." isn't going to 
sway them.  :)

yes, thanks Johan. Considering I was looking into upgrading to R2, the issue 
with WIM download seems like a good reason to hold off. is there somewhere that 
the known issues are being tracked that we can all view?
