I have a mdt share setup at home (much faster to reimage that malware infested computer) and have oem media imported. It activates just fine, so long as the SLIC (table in the bios of the machine) contains a valid entry for that OS.

I have no idea about what the business needs are, I'm just trying to help a friend with his imaging needs. He works with small business, so I know change can be hard to sell. I work for a large company and will not be moving to Windows 8 anytime soon, except for a small handful of people. This comes from the business and not IS. Thanks for the info, I'll have him looking into the VL. Not to derail the conversation, but whenever I hear a technical person say something like "The business", it almost always means that the technical person is thinking for the business, has not truly asked the business, or the business doesn't actually understand the question. Do these businesses know the many advantages of using Win 8.1? So in order to image the PC's using MDT back to Windows 7 he needs to get a Volume Licenses to do so? I'm looking for the easiest way for him to use MDT and the cheapest way. I didn't think it would be this complicated to reimage the PC's to Windows 7 using MDT. I thought it would be easier and kind of sold him on using MDT to do this instead of doing one machine at a time using the disks. The business do not want to use Windows 8. Note that you are not allowed to image using OEM versions of Windows at all (see the Reimaging Rights doc linked in the second page linked above). I concur with Michael though, just stay with Win 8.1. I'm helping a friend setup MDT to image new Dell and HP machines that are coming in with Windows 8 down gradable to Windows 7. We are putting Windows 7 on the machines and need to figure what he needs to do for licenses keys on these machines. I've never dealt with imaging non corporate machines, so I've always used a KMS server with SCCM. What options does he have in order to image machines for other business that he supports. He has about 25 different companies that will need to refresh their PC's over the next year. The PC's range from 25-200 PC's per business. I did some looking around and found different options, but I'm not sure what he needs to use to make sure that he is covered for Licensees these machine. Thanks
