Did you ever look into using the multicast support in MDT ?

server

I have been using a samba share for MDT deployment point for many years.
Actually was using a number of linux NAS boxes to migrate 12K XP PCs and it
worked flawlessly.
It was also a snap to sync all points using rsync

Hey Folks,

Has anyone ever looked into creating a Linux based deployment point. I’m just
making a mental checklist of things I would need and I don’t see why it
wouldn’t work.

Checklist:

• Tftp server

• Dhcp server

• Http server to help tftp server

• PXELinux config to boot litetouch.bin

• SMB file share of MDT deployment point

If it’s possible then I don’t see why multicasting wouldn’t be possible as
well. For those who say just use WDS, I’m pretty sure there is a cost to using
WDS …. Cost of a MS server license.
