For both ZTI and LTI, bdd.log is the target log file for any MDT script output (historical note, MDT used to be called BDD back in the day). Scripts include anything written in VBScript and/or Powershell. The API’s and the format are public, so 3rd party scripts can also write to bdd.log.
Smsts.log is the log file for the SCCM (sms) Stand Alone Task Sequencer Engine. As the task sequencer processes your Task Sequence, it will write status to the smsts.log file. For MDT Litetouch, it’s kind of weird since, we launch the task sequence from the Litetouch.wsf wrapper program. This wrapper program is responsible for setting up the Task Sequencer Engine, and kicking off the selected task sequence. It just happens to *also* write to the bdd.log file, so you may need to read both the bdd.log and/or smsts.log file in parallel, going back and forth between the two to see the whole operation. For SCCM/OSD+MDT/ZTI – BDD.log will really only contain the logging information from the MDT scripts. OF course SCCM has other log files that it can use in addition to the bdd.log and/or smsts.log file. Never mind figured it out, I was looking in the wrong logs. The log I should have been watching was C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\SMSTSLog\smsts.log Could someone explain what BDD and smsts are used for ? I thought BDD contained all the deployment logs. I’m also not receiving any errors while doing the deployment.
