Thanks for the info, Sean. I'm going directly out to Microsoft for the Windows Update, and it appears to be pulling down the full 900+MB package the second time through.
Maybe I'll need to rethink how I'm going to construct this. Perhaps I'll create a "gold" image using a build and capture that has all of this already taken care of as opposed to doing it at build-time. This was answered by Micheal Niehaus on the patch management mailing list If you are using express updates, it will only download the updated .NET 3.5 components, so the "reinstall" is more like "pick up the missing pieces" - it should be fairly small.
