Have a read of this article. If doing full on OS upgrades every 12-18 months
isn't your cUp of tea, maybe you should look into LTSB or even Windows 8.1

Thanks for the resources guys, this helps.

Also, I am wondering how do you handle updates, specifically when it requires a
reboot? In my part time retail job, we just leave our computers on 24 hours a
day even when the store is closed over night. This leaves plenty of time for IT
to do whatever they need. However, in a school setting, there is no way that
would be an acceptable option from a power usage standpoint.

I'd really hate for a computer to pop up and demand a reboot in the middle of a
teachers class. My other idea is to tell teachers to leave their computers on
overnight on specific days like patch Tuesday. However, it seems like there
shouldn't need to be that much user interaction. Sorry to get away from the
main topic of MDT, but I am just trying to figure this out. Thanks, Kyle

LTSB – are the “some” educated? With LTSB there are no in-box apps and no

be using it for Kiosk machines accessing virtual desktops.

How much control? First plan your strategy. I suggest a few sessions recorded
and posted on YouTube channel “Microsoft Tech Summit”. These sessions are
updated versions of what Mike N. gave at Ignite. Worth watching. I was there.

Subject: [MDT-OSD] Deploy CBB or LTSB with MDT and how to update it

Hello MDTers!

Our school district has been using MDT to deploy Windows 7 and WSUS to update
Windows 7 for a couple years now.

Windows 10 has this new Windows as a Service thing and I am trying to figure it
all out. We have a working Windows 10 deployment in MDT, but we are still
trying to decide on a version. We could do Education but some have suggested
Enterprise LTSB. Microsoft says this is only for special purpose PCs that are
not running Office. What are the pros and cons of LTSB? Are any of you using it?

Also, how much control do you get over the updates to Windows 10 with WSUS? We
don't currently have SCCM, but I suppose it's an option in the future.

Thanks,
Kyle
