Hi again, > Why not detaching the epg from the channel list and create a separate > window for the comprehensive epg?
This idea has been floated a lot, there seems to be a divide between those that "love" the simplicity of Me TV and those that have specific needs that Me TV doesn't fulfill i.e. Dual head setups, large channel lists, multiple channels.conf files, FAT32 file naming constriants and headless systems. Me TV will not be all things to all people, I'm one guy with a specific need which is to provide a TV program that my wife can use. She struggles with multiple overlapping windows so I'm not going to implement a multiple window solution (Which I think is a bad UI choice anyway, for example see GIMP). As always, the application is open source (GPL) and I'm not shy in allowing other developers to submit patches/changes so that they can have their options implemented. To date, few have stepped up to the plate, none have hit the ball. > I don't think that the creation of bouquets will not solve the problem > of the 3000 entries channel list because: > - me-tv will have to handle that list in the interface to create the > bouquets > - the user should also have the possibility to use the full channel list > to switch channels; preferably with a search/filter input field. Really this should be done as a GtkTreeView with a ListStore model i.e. A list view that should solve the issue. If someome wants to implement a list view style EPG then go ahead, sounds good to me. > Finally for your information: kaffeine does not have any problem with a > 3000 entries channel list. I'm not stopping you from using kaffeine, it's a great program and I've spoken to hftom (The kaffeine DVB guy) quite a bit. Kaffiene puts its EPG in a list view which makes it more efficient for large lists, but less feature rich i.e. In kaffeine I can't see easily what's on all channels right now (last time I looked). Me TV can do the same if someone wants to do it, in fact, 0.3 worked this way. Thanks, Michael -- me-tv unresponsive when using a big channels.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260685 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Me TV Development, which is subscribed to Me TV. Status in Me TV, it's TV for me computer: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 8.10 development version Me-TV 0.5.33 DVB-S card When using dvb-s, Astra 19.2 east and Hotbird 13e are two satellite positions that are widely used in Western Europe. Each of these satellites broadcasts over 1000 channels. Me-Tv becomes quite unresponsive when using a huge channel-list; it takes very long to start up; opening the EPG takes very long,... A work around for the user is to only keep the few channels that are of interest to him in the channel list; but I hope that it will be possible to really speed up the channel handling. (Maybe that it will require separating channel switching and epg) _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~me-tv-development Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~me-tv-development More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
