Good to hear you are already into this.
The first problem, the disappearing events, is really annoying.
I will look if i can find out on what conditions they disappear, maybe its
reproducible.
Whit the gaps, the first option is not really practicable.
The second option is exactly what i thinked how to handle this.
One more option could be to use a different text on the gap events so they can
scale better. I think this is how my sony tv handles it. It shows a small event
with just an "i" on it but you cant select it, its just for gap-filling.
