d4nnyt confirmed that the question is solved:
I wasn't aware there was a more stable version as I usually just rely on
the repositories.
Upgraded to the latest stable version. Unhashed the
'gui.audio_mixer_method:Software' in xine.config. Started up me-tv set
the audio device to alsa, restarted me-tv, now it works how I wanted it
to.
