Nico,
Yes, my current state is that I have been developing interfaces for
Java and building a little application to set the default Midi device
for PortMidi applications. There's nothing to prevent an application
from managing its own defaults, but small apps should be able to just
open default devices in a simple way without building a device selection
interface. Then the user can just run the little application to set the
defaults in a system-wide manner. Unfortunately, this little exercise
took more time and I had less time than expected, so it has dragged
things out, and it has been hard to respond to a lot of small issues
since my code has so many changes in mid-flight. The semester here is
winding down, and I hope to push out some updates soon.
There is still a release from June on SourceForge that I think is
more consistent than the latest in svn, but then it is missing some
updates, so I really need to get in there and bring everything up-to-date.
