Kemarin pagi (26/1), harian The Jakarta Post memberikan "bonus spesial" kepada para pembacanya. Bonus itu berbentuk majalah. Tampilannya cukup berkelas, nyaris mirip majalah The New Yorker. Kertasnya putih licin. Aktor Butet Kartaredjasa asal Yogyakarta terpilih sebagai penghias sampul depan majalah Weekender edisi perdana. Kepalanya bermahkota. Melotot matanya. Selempang kain beludru warna merah bak seorang raja tersampir di pundaknya. Berbalutkan baju lengan panjang warna putih entah rancangan siapa, mulutnya ia tutup rapat-rapat: "says it like it is". Pajangan iklan dari merk-merk ternama pun tak ragu membanjiri halaman Weekender edisi perdana: Nikko Hotels, Grand Cafe, The Time Place, Fred Lunettes, Regatta the icon, Kempinski Residences, Blush Marc Jacobs, Alain Figaret Paris, Da Vinci Penthouse, Longines, L'Occitane, dan tak ketinggalan Omega. Tak lupa saya ucapkan selamat kepada tim redaksi Weekender, semoga terus meningkatkan kualitas! ---------------------------------------------------------- Editor's Note: Here for the weekend Today marks the debut of The Jakarta Post Weekender, a first for the newspaper and, we believe, for Indonesia. Although many leading dailies have Sunday editions, none has come out with a regularly published, full-fledged weekend magazine. Our edition is focused on lifestyle topics, and designed to meet the needs of our community of readers - both Indonesians and expatriates - in better understanding this country and the world we share. To supplement our local content, produced by the Weekender team and contributors, the magazine also will feature a range of stories from the Lifestyle and News special report sections of The New York Times Sunday Magazine. We want this to be a "good read", providing readers with an affect their lives. Among the contents of this issue, we see that other side of actor Butet Kartaredjasa, hear from women about their choice to wear - or not to wear - the headscarf and peruse the hot spring fashions. Although the Weekender is not intended as a mere extension of the editorial content of The Jakarta Post daily, neither is it a sweeping departure from our tradition of journalism. We will continue to strive to bring the most relevant, interesting and accurate reports to our readers. Initially, the magazine - free to all subscribers and purchasers of The Jakarta Post - will be available monthly. After it becomes more established, we plan to publish it every two weeks. In moving forward, we hope readers will take the time to share their thoughts and comments about the magazine's contents. We can be reached at [EMAIL PROTECTED] So, please read on! Bruce Emond
