INDONESIAN COFFEE: OPPORTUNITY IN DIVERSITY

By: Alun Evans

In Indonesia, the world's fourth largest producer of green coffee, coffee is
primarily grown by small-hold growers often within a village growing
environment. In recent years production of coffee in Indonesia has slipped,
and this year the country will be surpassed by India in production numbers.
The keys to turning around the coffee industry here are numerous and
socially complex. Alun Evans, a coffee roaster and co-founder of Merdeka
Coffee, will talk about the importance of this product in Indonesia and how
it impacts on people's lives around the country, and he will offer
perspectives on the future of Indonesian coffee. The backdrop to this
presentation will be photos from lush coffee-growing regions from Sumatra to
Papua, including the villages and coffee growers he visits and works with.
Information on the individual characteristics of different coffees will be
featured.

Date: March 20 | Place: Erasmus Huis, Jl. Rasuna Said | at 7: 30 p.m.

Lecture will be presented in English
