simple as that bukan?
politica).

May 30, 07:00 PM Newsmen's East Timor shooting 'a war crime'By 7News Five
Australian newsmen killed during Indonesia's invasion of East Timor were
"deliberately shot" as they tried to surrender, an inquest has heard. The
so-called 'Balibo Five' were gunned down while reporting on the situation in
what was then Portuguese Timor in 1975. Official reports claim Brian Peters,
Greg Shackelton, Tony Stewart, Gary Cunningham and Malcolm Rennie were killed
in the crossfire between invading Indonesian forces and Fretilin troops. But
a Sydney inquest into the death of cameraman Mr Peters, 27, has been told his
death, and those of his friends, was a war crime committed by Indonesia. Mark
Tedeschi QC, the lawyer assisting the
inquest, has recommended that two as yet unidentified Indonesian officers face
charges of "wilful killing" over the incident. "It's what we've been saying
for all these years, and it's rather wonderful to hear it said in a court of
law," said Shirley Shackleton, widow of Channel Seven journalist Greg. Mr
Tedeschi said the men's deaths were ordered by Indonesian Captain Yusuf
Yosfiah, to ensure that no news of Indonesia's involvement in the attack at
Balibo could leak out. He said Indonesia had told senior Australian
Government officials of its secret plans to invade the town on three occasions
beforehand, in a deliberate ploy to silence any criticism of the takeover of
East Timor. "[It was] a masterful power play worthy of an international chess
grand master, using Australian leaders and departmental officers as their
pawns," Mr Tedeschi told the inquest. The families of the dead men have
always maintained the five were murdered, and that the Australian
Government covered up what happened. Earlier this month, former Prime
Minister Gough Whitlam was called to give evidence to the inquest. The
90-year-old politician told the hearing, at Glebe Coroner's Court, that he had
known nothing of the men's fate until five days after they were killed.
