Background
Physics is the most fundamental of all the natural sciences, and its
applications extend even to other areas of human endeavor. It is the study of
the natural world based on quantitative observations and experiments. Physics
attempts to discover simple rules by which observations of many different
situations can be correlated within a common framework of fundamental ideas.
Physical laws and the framework in which they are used have profound influence
on how we view our universe and ourselves. Ernest Rutherford said, in science,
there is only physics; all the rest is stamp collecting. Physics gets to the
roots of all physical phenomena. Recently, physics rules are applied to almost
all fields of science and technology. Especially, in the development of a new
science and technology, named, nanoscience and nanotechnology, physical rules
place frontier position to realize the technology that expected to
revolutionary human society. It is well known, development of nanoscience
and nanotechnology need to understand the mechanism in nanoscale down to
atomic scale. This can only be done by the help of quantum physics. In response
to the needs mentioned above and their potentially great impact on technology,
the Program Study of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences,
Institut Teknologi Bandung has organized the biannual Asian Physics Symposium
since 2005, which is the extension of the annual meeting named Annual Physics
Seminar since 2001. Motivated by the encouraging results of and responses to
those events, we have decided to continue this meeting at the end this year. To
be exact, we are now in the process of preparing the 2nd APS 2007 to be held
between 29th - 30th of November 2007 in Bandung . From our past records, we
expect a total of over 100 participants from the Asian countries as well as the
advanced countries. Among these, about 80 contributing speakers are expected to
present their recent research results, in the event
which will be further highlighted by about 5-10 invited speakers from
internationally reputable institutions abroad.
Aims
This meeting, as its predecessors, is aimed at providing the much needed forum
of scientific communication and interaction among distinguished scientists
working in the field physics and related fields
In turn, the seminar on the latest research results will present the
state-of-the-art development in the field and help to chart our future research
directions.
This event is also designed to offer the opportunity of making direct contacts
for the young Indonesian scientist and students with well-known scientist
abroad, and thereby fostering the existing research collaborations and
extending international research networking for the future.
