WKOP (PBS) goes off the air By Terry Morrow (Contact) Originally published 01:39 p.m., July 2, 2008 Updated 01:39 p.m., July 2, 2008
WKOP, Channel 15, is off the air for analog viewers. The station is off the air after the failure of a major transmitter. Repairs to it would be too costly to make, and a federal-mandated convergence to digital will happen in February 2009 anyway, making the repair unnecessary, says station management. Reception is still available for digital viewers. Sister PBS station WETP, Channel 2, has made the mandated digital transition early and is broadcasting all the regular programming from the state-of-the-art digital transmitter. Any viewer experiencing the loss of their analog signal can take measures to receive the digital signal. Gregory S.
