July 28, 2008 12:06 p.m. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121725777997990023.html?mod=2_1571_leftbox BCE Inc. said it is cutting about 2,500 positions at Bell Canada, representing about 6% of the unit's total workforce, as it attempts to streamline its management and lower costs. The company, which is being taken private in a $35 billion private-equity deal, said it expects the cuts to save about $300 million Canadian dollars ($294 million) in annual costs. The cuts include a 30% reduction in executive jobs revealed earlier this month, and don't include nonmanagement positions, the company said. The moves were expected after Chief Executive George Cope took over from then-CEO Michael Sabia earlier this month. BCE has more than 54,000 employees. ================================ George Antunes, Political Science Dept University of Houston; Houston, TX 77204 Voice: 713-743-3923 Fax: 713-743-3927 antunes at uh dot edu ******************************* * POST TO [EMAIL PROTECTED] * ******************************* Medianews mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.etskywarn.net/mailman/listinfo/medianews
