DIRECTV/TiVo HD DVR Delayed Again By Phillip Swann TVPredictions.com
http://www.tvpredictions.com/dtivo092610.htm Washington, D.C. (September 26, 2010) -- A top TiVo executive says that the long-awaited TiVo/DIRECTV HD DVR will not be introduced until early 2011. The companies first said in 2008 that the set-top would be introduced in the second half of 2009. But there have been several delays for reasons never made entirely clear by either DIRECTV and TiVo. And now in an interview with PC Magazine, Joe Miller, a TiVo senior vice president, is still vague on why it's taking so long to release the product. "Some of it's timing, some of it's development, their platform architecture continues to change and develop, and we're trying to stream into that, and it's been that as much as anything," Miller told the publication. Anytime it's a new development on a fluid platform, it's going to take time," Miller said. The TiVo executive also blamed the upcoming holidays for the most recent delay. "With any major service provider, you don't really make major service introductions in the mix of the holidays," Miller said. "And as soon as you run into the end of the year…even retailers run into lockdown at the end of October." Miller also said Cox Cable, another partner, will not introduce its TiVo service until 2011. TiVo, which has lost nearly two million subscribers in the last four years, is hoping the new partnership will revitalize its sub drive. -- ======================================== George Antunes, Political Science Dept University of Houston; Houston, TX 77204 Voice: 713-743-3923 Fax: 713-743-3927 Mail: antunes at uh dot edu _______________________________________________ Medianews mailing list [email protected] http://lists.etskywarn.net/mailman/listinfo/medianews
