Washington, D.C. (September 30, 2010) -- Seventeen percent of U.S.
households now have at least one Blu-ray player, according to a new NPD
Group report.

The report was cited in an article by Home Media Magazine.

The report said that roughly 20 million U.S. households own both a
Blu-ray player and a DVD player. Ninety-five percent of U.S. households
have a DVD player.

Home Media writes that Centris, another research firm, also issued a
report on Blu-ray, saying 47 percent of Blu-ray owners watch movies on
their Play Station 3 consoles while 45 percent watch on standalone
Blu-ray players. The PS3 has a Blu-ray player inside.

Centris added that younger, wealthier consumers with children are most
likely to buy a Blu-ray player. In other stats:

* 85 percent of Blu-ray households own a HDTV and video game console
compared to 62 percent of DVD households.

* More than 25 percent of households with HDTVs own a Blu-ray player.
