Washington, D.C. (October 18, 2012) -- Could the Dish-AMC
breach-of-contract trial soon have a normal and relatively happy ending?

After several days of acting like they were actors in a TV courtroom
drama, representatives for the two companies were seen huddling in a
private room after Judge Richard Lowe III postponed trial proceedings
until Monday. The Wall Street Journal writes that the meetings could
mean that settlement talks are underway.

AMC is suing Dish for $2.5 billion for dropping the AMC-owned Voom HD
Networks from its lineup in 2007. Dish claims Voom failed to live up to
its legal obligation to spend $100 million on programming; AMC and Voom
says Dish dropped the channels because they felt they could carry other
HD channels for less money.

Lowe postponed the trial until Monday after a week of melodramatic
twists and turns that included a scuffle between Dish programming exec
Carolyn Crawford and the 83-year-old father of an AMC attorney; Crawford
storming out of the room in tears after being insulted by Judge Lowe;
the judge ordering Dish to submit a series of private email exchanges or
he would declare AMC the victor; the seizure of a computer hard drive;
and the eventual submission of the emails which contradicted much of
what Dish has been saying.

The final development -- the email submission -- has many court
observers betting that Dish now wants to settle the case.

The outcome could have an impact on the now three-month long programming
impasse between Dish and AMC. The latter claims that Dish was not
sincere in reaching a new deal to carry AMC and two sister networks
because it wanted to use the impasse in possible settlement talks in the
Voom case.

If settlement talks are indeed underway, it could mean three things:

1. AMC would return to Dish's lineup;

2. Dish would have to give AMC up to $1 billion;

3. The circus known as the Dish/AMC trial would leave town.
