Washington, D.C. (February 11, 2015)- Dish has launched a promotional
campaign that guarantees DIRECTV subscribers that they will save at
least $250 a year if they switch satellite providers.
The promotion, which runs through April 8, calls for DIRECTV customers
to contact Dish and ask for the 'Dish Challenge.' If a Dish customer
service rep can not propose a similar program package that would deliver
$250 in annual savings from the subscriber's DIRECTV bill, Dish will
offer a $250 prepaid payment card.
There are a few catches. The DIRECTV subscriber will have to agree to a
two-year contract with Dish. Plus, he will have to submit his last
DIRECTV bill to Dish for online verification that he's dropping DIRECTV.
(The details of the offer can be found at DishChallenge.com.)
Coming on the heels of Dish's launch of *Sling TV*
<http://www.tvpredictions.com/sports020715.htm>, a $20 a month Internet
TV service designed to appeal to cord-cutters, Dish's campaign to target
DIRECTV customers indicates that the company feels it needs to be more
aggressive to attract and keep subscribers.
Dish is expected soon to release its 2015 fourth quarter report and it
could show a subscriber decline after the company engaged in several fee
fights with programmers during the period, including Turner and CBS.
The nation's second largest satellite provider also faces stiffer
competition in the coming months if federal regulators approve the
pending mergers of DIRECTV and AT&T, and Comcast and Time Warner Cable.
In past subscriber crises over the years, Dish has fallen back on
marketing campaigns designed to show that it's the low-cost TV service
and Sling and the Dish Challenge provides more of that.
"Consumers' purchase decisions are often closely tied to value, and our
new campaign highlights Dish's undeniable advantage in price plus
technology over DIRECTV," the company stated in a press release.
DIRECTV has yet to respond to the Dish Challenge with a similar offer or
counter strategy. But the satcaster has been heavily *promoting*

package since Dish launched the $20 a month Sling TV service.
