Mexico's TV Azteca has signed a deal with satellite provider EchoStar, giving the US Hispanic channel Azteca America nationwide distribution on EchoStar's Dish Network.
Azteca America, which saw Q4 revenues increase 80% to $13m in 2004, will become available from next month as part of EchoStar's Dish Latino programme package.
As part of the deal EchoStar has obtained the right to air TV Azteca's 24-hour live musical reality show, La Academia 4, on one of its own channels. The show is currently the subject of an ongoing legal dispute with Endemol, which claims it is a rip-off of Operacion Triunfo.
While the sharp rise in Azteca America's revenues last quarter contributed to a marginal overall increase in net sales to $216m, the channel's growth prompted a 10% increase in associated costs to some $117m.
