CBC Radio 3 To Launch Satellite Radio Station Thursday November 10, 2005 @ 04:00 PM
By: ChartAttack.com Staff http://www.chartattack.com/damn/2005/11/1007.cfm While commercial radio has reached dizzying lows, music fans have been looking for alternatives to the old-fashioned, corporate-controlled listening experience. With podcasts, anyone in possession of a computer can log on and enjoy completely random playlists. CBC Radio 3 is one of the most successful podcasts with over 20,000 downloads every day at one point it was the #1 podcast on the web. Because of that success, CBC Radio 3 is launching a 24-hour North American satellite radio station in early December. Eighty-five per cent of the music played on the new station will be Canadian. From bands like Broken Social Scene and The Arcade Fire who have already garnered fame all over the world to emerging artists still under the radar, CBC Radio 3 will give an international boost to our artists. Partnered with the Sirius Satellite network, the new station will showcase artists from every genre and everywhere in Canada. "With so much buzz around the Canadian indie music scene, it's a great time for us to launch," Radio 3 director Steve Pratt says in a release. Satellite radio has over three million subscribers and is one of the fastest expanding technological mediums in the U.S. right now. The station will launch in Canada when Sirius, the prime satellite radio provider in the U.S., expands here in December. By early next year, the programming will also include the sessions and concerts that CBC Radio 3 broadcasts regularly on Saturday nights on CBC Radio 2. The official launch date will likely be announced in the first week of December. "This is an amazing success story for Canadian music," says Pratt. "And it's only just begun." ================================ George Antunes, Political Science Dept University of Houston; Houston, TX 77204 Voice: 713-743-3923 Fax: 713-743-3927 antunes at uh dot edu Reply with a "Thank you" if you liked this post. _____________________________ MEDIANEWS mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
