TiVo Plans TV Package With Parental Controls By ELLEN SHENG Wall Street Journal
March 2, 2006 10:49 a.m. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB114131357778487628.html?mod=home_whats_news_us TiVo Inc. is preparing to roll out a children's programming package this summer to help parents control what their kids watch. Called KidZone, the package will choose programs recommended by special interest groups Common Sense Media and Parents Television Council. The TV set will display recorded or live programming only within those boundaries unless parents key in a special password to leave the KidZone. Parents still will be able to record or watch shows they deem inappropriate for kids once they key in the password. "We've finally cracked the code on how to give everyone choice and get the right TV easily delivered," TiVo Chief Executive Tom Rogers said in an interview. TiVo's announcement comes as Washington policy makers are putting renewed focus on family-friendly TV programming. Under pressure from the Federal Communications Commission, cable and satellite companies recently introduced family programming tiers that offer a limited number of channels with G-rated content. TiVo's KidZone product will become available to all TiVo subscribers with a standalone Series2 box. There will be no additional charge for the service. ================================ George Antunes, Political Science Dept University of Houston; Houston, TX 77204 Voice: 713-743-3923 Fax: 713-743-3927 antunes at uh dot edu Reply with a "Thank you" if you liked this post. _____________________________ MEDIANEWS mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
