Cingular plans simultaneous video/chat within year http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060628/tc_nm/telecoms_cingular_video_dc_1
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cingular Wireless plans within the next year to offer a service allowing customers to share videos with each other and talk at the same time, a top executive said on Wednesday. "It's a video share service where you can show a video while talking about it," Cingular's Chief Technology Officer Kris Rinne said on the sidelines of the Yankee Group Wireless Leadership Summit. Like its rivals, Cingular, a venture between AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T - news) and BellSouth Corp. (NYSE:BLS - news), is pushing services such as mobile video and picture swapping fir cellphones as it hopes to boost its business beyond voice services. Many cell phones already support applications, such as Web surfing and video players and recorders, but so far it is not possible to keep talking on the phone while using it to view a video or surf the Web. Yankee analyst Linda Barrabee said Cingular's service may appeal to young cellphone users or parents showing-off clips of their children. But the success of such a service would depend on price and how well the company explains it to consumers. "It goes back to marketing and price points," Barrabee said. Rinne did not discuss service prices.
