Sky hits pubs with 13 per cent price hike 15 June, 2006
By James Wilmore The Publican http://www.thepublican.com/story.asp?sectioncode=7&storycode=52030 Increases in Sky subscription will take effect from August 1 Pubs face paying an average 13 per cent more for their Sky subscription from August 1. Letters outlining the rises are due to hit licensees' doormats today and are sure to provoke outrage among many who feel the fees are already too high. Last year the satellite operator increased the price of a subscription by an average 12 per cent. A spokesperson for Sky said: "Sky offers pubs and clubs the opportunity to show the best televised sport available and we believe that businesses that choose to take Sky do so for sound commercial reasons." Sky has held the exclusive rights to screen the Premiership for the past 13 years, but due to changes by the EU was forced to give up two packages to Irish broadcaster Setanta in an auction in March. These changes will take effect in 2007. ================================ George Antunes, Political Science Dept University of Houston; Houston, TX 77204 Voice: 713-743-3923 Fax: 713-743-3927 antunes at uh dot edu Reply with a "Thank you" if you liked this post. _____________________________ MEDIANEWS mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
