Snocap testing online music sales service http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060726/wr_nm/media_snocap_dc_2
LONDON (Reuters) - Snocap, the digital music company founded by Napster creator Sean Fanning, is testing a new service that enables bands to sell their music from Web sites like MySpace. Snocap's Linx service is also designed to let online retailers sell music from the company's vast registry of songs. It has distribution deals with Universal Music, Sony BMG, EMI Group and Warner Music, along with a number of independent labels. One band, The Format, is already selling music using Linx on its MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/theformat). Buying the songs, which are sold in the unencrypted MP3 format, requires registration with Snocap and PayPal, the electronic payment system owned by eBay. "All in all, the Linx is an impressive new way to purchase music, and like MySpace is a powerful new tool that quickly and easily raises the bar for independent artists," the music blog Coolfer (http://www.coolfer.com/blog/) wrote on Wednesday.
