Hi, I chatted with Roan on freenode briefly, where he said he thought I was making a valid request in the right way.. So that gave me some hope to play around further.
What I've found is that if I request rcprop for user and userid, then things seem to work. Weird.. Since I don't really care if I get (or don't get) user handles, I'm happy to put that in my request for now. So I can continue developing the application. But it does seem like a bug.
