It's worth discussing. I'm inclined to agree with those comments
from 2007 fwiw.

Free software projects big / complex enough to have professionals specialized on them tend to have a Jobs section at their websites or somewhere nearby.

It is usually the interest of any free software community to have people working on their technologies full time. Having a place to advertise positions helps. The WMF is the biggest employer and has to put plenty of effort to reach out. The situation of smaller companies willing to hire MediaWiki developers is a lot worse.
