I don't think there is a one size fits all answer.
You have to try to balance portability with space limitations and of course $$$. Another consideration is how many different types of devices you want to try to support. The appropriate mix of desktops, wall mounts, carts and/or tablets depends on volume, workflow
 and variety of users.
I would evaluate the "success" of the tablets with the end users and determine the acceptable replacement rate. Other devices might hold up better, but if the users can't do their work safely and effeciently what's the point?
I'm interested to hear from others about this issue. Please post responses.
Good luck,

Currently, our physicians are using HP 1100 wireless tablets in the
outpatient clinic setting. We have had several tablets dropped, and
destroyed, and are evaluating other options. Should we stay with the
tablet option, or should we investigate other options, e.g., wall
mounted devices, carts, laptops, etc. I would like to hear from L'ers
who have any recommendations or experience with portable devices.
