Hello Deb, this is a bit of a different process but here goes.

Many of our facilities have the physician's office fax the order
directly to the scheduling dept as part of the scheduling process. Most
are using some sort of fax-server so they have an image of the written
order before the patient arrives. This allows them to comfirm/review the
RFV and the actual procedure requested. It also works out well for those
procedures that require pre-certification and the coders don't have to
"hunt down" the order for coding.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Reason for Visit query in CWS

Hello~
We are having a discussion concerning the use of the RFV line in CWS.
Many times, when an appointment in Radiology is scheduled, a reason for
visit is given and entered by the scheduler in Radiology. However, when
the patient brings in the order from the doctor, either the reason for
visit does match, or there are more reasons than originally given and
Admissions does not always notice that the reasons differ. This causes
a problem if we have to pull an order and the RFV do not match.
What I would like to know is, where else are you putting Reason for
Visit info scheduling? Schedulers Notes? I suggested this as an
alternative, we have an NPR that prints in the morning that contains up
to 3 lines of Scheduler Notes, thus the RFV could be viewed by the
Radiology dept. (Also, we NEVER use the RFV line for IP/OBS; for those
patients, that line is used for transfer info which gets wiped out if
someone inadvertently puts a RFV in.)

I appreciate any help you can provide!
