Hi Kathryn!
You know where we stand on the same issues.
1. We have a custom being worked on to show the correct Next scheduled
dose, even after the change of schedule, in the box. However, they are
currently at a stuck point (which I could live with) where the second
date in the box would still be the earliest missed dose. We have asked
that it work as you have outlined.

2. I like your thoughts for "NEXT" It shouldn't have the ability to
next for active meds.

I'll add another question to yours -
Any thoughts on the fact that a medication will not DC from the MAR
until the last scheduled dose has been documented? If the documentation
for the last dose of a medication is missed, the med will remain on the
MAR as overdue, looking active, until the documentation is done.

We are in discussion with our Update Specialists regarding several eMAR
issues for 5.5.2. They are interested in knowing if other sites share
our views on the following:

1) Next Scheduled Column not updating in response to manually changing
the schedule if there are missed doses. We believe this has great
potential for medication errors, especially possible double dosing.

--5.4.2, if there is a missed dose, the user can update the schedule,
document their administration and the schedule will remain updated. The
entry will continue to display at the top of the MAR regardless if it's
Next Scheduled.

--5.5.2 if there is a missed dose, the user can update the schedule,
document their administration and the schedule will not remain updated,
but revert to a schedule that includes the missed dose, displays in red,
and is at the top of the MAR until the missed dose(s) are addressed.

We would like to have the Schedule remain updated and display in
relation to Next Scheduled and not at the top as an overdue. I would
also like to suggest a display message like the ACK or UNV if there are
missed doses as a visual clue instead of having it affect the order of
display. The eMAR Exception report shows missed doses.

2) Next Page Invoked with Scroll Bar-Display Order

--5.5.2, "Next Page" is being invoked with fewer MAR entries (approx.
20 entries will trigger) so the user will see a scroll bar with "Next
Page" on various patients/residents. The display will be as follows:

First-->overdue for administration
Second-->next scheduled administration
Third-->no scheduled administration
Fourth-->by route of administration alphabetically
Fifth-->by medication name within each route
Sixth-->CANCELLED status
Seventh-->DISCONTINUED status
Eighth-->PRN (as needed)

We believe this could result in missed doses and delays in med
administration. We would like to have PRNs display above CANCELLED AND
DISCONTINUED statuses and "Next Page" should not invoke for ACTIVE
status medications.

Please respond with your comments and your site information. I will be
forwarding your responses to our PCS Update Specialist Shawn.

Thank you in advance for your responses,
Katie
