Here are responses to my ER Criteria posting. Thanks to everyone that
answered! Julie

Julie, Here is my site visit evaluation tool. The ED started this
project before I joined the organization. We narrowed down the vendors
to 3; Amelior, A4 and Picis. Our clinicians did not put EDM in the top
3. Good luck, feel free to contact me if you need more info.

We had two major criteria.....customer definablitly and
integration....only logical choice for us was EDM.

We looked at several vendors but it really came down to integration and
ability to customize so it was EDM. Alos, a big factor for us was being
able to charge when you did procedure or gave drug and since we do not
have automated dispensing the only easy way to get pharmacy charges
across was EDM. We wnet for dictionary training this week and will be
going live with EDM and the physician documentaiton piece in August.

Hi Julie,
Greetings from Great Falls! I saw your message re:EDM and need to
respond. We use EDM and have since April 2004 and we are happy with it.
We did not "shop around" for vendors because we felt the integration
with the rest of the hospital was very important. If you would like to
come "up north" for a site visit, I would be happy to show you what we
have done!

We went with Medhost - staff seem to really like it and basically
everything is automated. Orders for lab and rad go through the
interfaces along with billing and charges.

Thanks,
Jen

The critical path for us has been the integration.
Our ED has been struggling for the last 5-7 years with lack of
automation. We have investigated paper templates, automated templates
and a host of Automated systems. Meditech has finally fleshed out their
product enough that the search team felt comfortable in selecting it!!
The Cadillac of windows based systems is actually up in a Meditech
hospital, but it requires 15-17 Interfaces (some of them have to be
bi-directional) and that scares the heck out of me.
As we all go down this eMAR/BMV and CPOE/PCM/POM path, medications are
one of the biggest bangs for bucks, along with historical medications
and allergies. The amount of time (read $$$) of analyst time to get all
this flowing back and forth is HUGE. I can not imagine maintaining 2
sets of Formularies and 2 sets of medication rules.
Our other goal is to have the patient's history default into the ED so
that staff does not ask redundant questions and has historical
information available to assist in care and decision making.
Our goal is to have the information and vitals collected in the ED flow
into the Assessment screens used by the staff, again, cutting down on
redundant questions for the patients and duplicate charting for all. We
want clinicians to be able to see the information flow from one area to
the next.
We are also really hot on allergies.. having them come over in ASCII
text won't cut it.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Criteria for picking ER documentation sytems

Would anyone be willing to share criteria they used to evaluate ER
on-line documentation software. We are magic 5.4 and starting to look
at different vendors. EDM is one. (If you have any suggestions for
vendors, I'd love to hear.) Thanks
