Bob- We have been using MedDirect a McKesson product for close to a year. It has worked great the pharmacist and technicians like the functionality of the system. McKesson also has great support for the system. You may want to look into it. I would recommend that you look at this product.. I don't know what it costs, but I'm sure that it is not cheap. I believe that other vendors, including Omnicel offer scanning. The only problem with scanning is that the nurses now expect to have their medications right after they scan them, so you have to educate them that it is a definite improvement, but that it still takes time to process the orders. I'm sure that it wouldn't be too different from faxing though in this respect. Charlie Charles R. Downs Pharm.D. Washington County Hospital 251 E. I know vendors like OMNICELL have rather nice (AND > EXPENSIVE) solutions to this issue.
