Kathryn:
We are a CS 5.5 shop with Outreach. We use Outreach to print "Blank
Future Labels" (available with 5.3/4?) and then essentially follow your
process. These labels are used in a downtime situation and once the
system comes back you can assign the barcode numbers to specimens as
they are entered. Once the specimens have barcodes associated you can
resend and collate as usual.

Hi...
Our solution may not be the best for it works for our small lab...
We purchase pre-printed barcode labels. The roll has several copies of the
same label for multiple tubes. During downtimes we have a master log for all
ordered tests and a copy of the barcode label is attached here.
We manually program our instruments with the barcode and tests ordered.
After the downtime the tests are ordered on the patients, the results are
resent by the analyzer to Meditech and we use the barcode # to match the
specimen for resulting.
Hope this helps...again, it is only 1 idea...I would love to hear how others
are handling this...
